Bien Venido a Miami

St. Augustine to Miami is a pretty long drive, so we made a weekend pitstop in Jupiter, Florida to visit some friends and family. Like most people right now, we have been limited with the amount of friends and family we have been able to see and spend time with. Before covid, my college girls and I would have a girls weekend every year. But it has been 2 years since I’ve seen Jen and the kids were in diapers (one was still in utero) the last time our families were together. Her girls are as silly and crazy as her so all of our babies had a blast. The dogs became fast friends and we laughed all weekend. The kiddos even had a night of tent camping.

Sloan and Jackson reluctantly got in the truck Sunday morning to drive a little further south to see Aunt Jill and their little cousins. Again, it has been years and they were so excited to see more family. We had a quick outdoor visit and indoor tour of the house. Uncle Wayne told them stories of the Giant Alligator that came close to snatching up their dog through the fence. Ben and I got to catch up with Greer and Adam and both Sloan and Jax became new big cousin favorites. Sloan even left with a new hairdo courtesy of Aunt Jill.

In the mix of this visiting, we had our RV parked at a little county park for the weekend. After leaving Aunt Jill’s, we headed back to get it thinking we had this down. Just 1 pm and we would be on the road by 1:30 – it would be a quick trip from Jupiter to Miami – just 2 hours. That is what could have happened. Instead, after a weekend of no electricity, our battery was dead. WTF! Turns out, leaving a little fan running for ventilation can kill your Fifth Wheel battery in just 2 days. Who knew? Well, now we do. Why do you need power to hitch a fifth wheel to a truck you ask? When you unhitch and level the RV for living, it is much lower than the height it needs to be to get it back on the hitch. We also have slide outs to make the RV wider while parked – yes, we live in a transformer. Without power, this autobot can not transform or even raise to hitch height. Luckily, Ben is a pro with youtube videos and after a quick tutorial (and a few choice words) was able to jumpstart the fifth wheel and we got on the road.

Finally, we were headed down to the Miami/Everglades area. I can not tell you how excited we were for this RV park. This RV park had an 18 hole put put course, large pool, hot tub, horse shoe pits, volleyball court and basketball court. Say what! We were ready for vacation! Then we pulled in…wah wah wah. Um, were we in the right place? The site was tiny and almost every RV looked as if they were there year round – with some choice accessories and landscaping surrounding them. But there we were, for 6 days. Not so sure we were going to be on vacation anymore. We just had to wait to see what the week would bring.
