Dining out in St. Augustine, Florida
When we planned to head to St. Augustine, I reached out to my friend and old neighbor Jerry Osuna. Jerry makes St. Augustine his second home and knows it well. He was quick to make recommendations and said to make sure to check out the famous Harry’s. One look at the menu and we put it on the list.
We hit Harry’s around happy hour, after a tour of the city, ready for a drink. They have a great outdoor patio and we found a quiet table to enjoy the meal. Our waitress was very friendly and had great recommendations. Jax asked her plenty of questions as he could not decide what he wanted to eat. We may have gone a little overboard as Harry’s provides very healthy portions and we ordered plenty. Appetizers included Fried Green Tomatoes, Boudin Balls, and a cup of Gumbo for Jax (yes, my 8 year old).
Jax continued his New Orleans vibe with Étouffée (he had to have the crawfish) as did Sloan with her Red Beans and Rice. Callie and I went for signature dishes (Crab Crusted Redfish Royale and Andouille Crusted Grouper). The meal was great including, a lively discussion about St. Augustine and the Spanish history. To top it off, we ordered the Oreo Beignets. WOW! What could be better than an Oreo battered in beignet mix and deep fried!
Harry is located right downtown and a close walk to all the attractions. If you find yourself in St. Augustine, make sure to check it out.
